Terraria: 10 Pro Tips for Surviving Hardmode and Defeating the Mechanical Bosses
1. Prepare Before You Kill the Wall of Flesh

Don't rush into Hardmode. Before defeating the Wall of Flesh, ensure you have a secure base, a hellevator, and at least 20 hearts of life. Stock up on potions and build a small arena for future boss fights. Also, create a long minecart track across the world for quick travel.
2. Secure Your Base Immediately
As soon as Hardmode starts, Corrupt/Crimson and Hallow biomes will spread. Dig a 4-block-wide trench around your base to prevent infection. Use non-corruptible materials like wood or stone for the walls. Place sunflowers to slow spread, but ultimately you need a quarantine.
3. Smash Altars Wisely
Destroy Demon/Crimson Altars to spawn new Hardmode ores (Cobalt, Mythril, Adamantite). But each altar broken increases the chance of spreading Corruption/Crimson to random blocks. Break only 12-15 altars for enough ore; stop there to minimize spread.
4. Fish for Early Hardmode Gear
Fishing in Hardmode can yield crates containing Hardmode ores without smashing altars. Stock up on crates before Hardmode, then open them after. This lets you skip early ore tiers and get better gear faster. Also, fish for the Crystal Serpent (magic weapon) and other useful loot.
5. Upgrade Your Pickaxe First
Your first priority should be mining the new ores. Cobalt/Palladium pickaxe is essential to mine Mythril/Orichalcum, and then Adamantite/Titanium. Upgrade pickaxe before armor or weapons. Use the Extractinator to get more ore from silt/slush.
6. Build an Arena for Mechanical Bosses
Create a large, multi-level arena with platforms spaced 10-12 blocks apart. Equip campfires, heart lanterns, and star in a bottle for regen. Use buff stations like ammo boxes and crystal balls. Include honey pools for extra healing. Make it at least 100 blocks wide.
7. Use Wings and Mobility Accessories
Hardmode enemies are fast and hit hard. Craft wings (e.g., Harpy or Fairy Wings) as soon as possible. Combine accessories for flight, speed, and dashing. Equip Lightning Boots, Shield of Cthulhu (for dodge), and a bundle of balloons for triple jump.
8. Farm for Key Weapons
Get the Daedalus Stormbow from Hallowed Mimics (summoned by Light Keys). Pair it with Holy Arrows for devastating damage against The Destroyer. For Skeletron Prime, use a Megashark with Crystal Bullets or Chlorophyte Bullets. For The Twins, consider a ranged weapon like the Uzi (from Angry Trappers) or a magical weapon like the Meteor Staff.
9. Use Buffs and Potions Liberally
Always use Ironskin, Regeneration, Swiftness, and Endurance potions. For bosses, add Wrath, Rage, Lifeforce, and any class-specific potions (Archery, Magic Power, etc.) Also place Heart Lanterns and Campfires in your arena for passive regen. Summon a small pet or sentry for extra damage.
10. Learn Boss Patterns
Each mechanical boss has a pattern. The Destroyer is a segmented worm; use piercing attacks like the Stormbow. Skeletron Prime attacks like a harder Skeletron; focus on the head. The Twins switch between melee and ranged; kill Spazmatism (the green one) first as his fire breath is deadlier. Use a crossbow or ranged weapon while dodging. With these tips, you'll conquer Hardmode in no time.
